SINCE 1988 hornist Sören Hermansson has developed an international reputation as a sought-after soloist and teacher. He has performed with orchestras and in chamber music recitals in Europe and the Americas. He is frequently invited to give masterclasses and teach chamber music courses. In 1997 he visited Brazil, and during the spring of 1993 he was Artist-in-Residence and Guest Professor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Sören Hermansson has an impressive repertoire. Not only does he continually research repertoire from centuries past, but he also works with composers of today to enlarge the repertoire for his instrument. Several composers have written concertos for Mr. Hermansson
including Roberto Sierra, Daron Hagen, Bengt Hambreus, Anders Eliasson and Folke Rabe. Always looking for new combinations, he has also worked with the internationally acclaimed percussion group Kroumata.
During recent years Mr. Hermansson has played together with Canadian harpist Erica Goodman, and they have made several stage and television appearances. They can be heard on two CDs on the Bis label - Horn and Harp Soirée and Horn and Harp Odyssey.
Soren Hermansson was born in 1956 in Upplands-Väsby Sweden. Having studied with Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, he played in the Norrkòping Symphony Orchestra from 1974 to 1978. In 1978 and 1979 he continued his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Adriaan van Woudenberg and thereafter at the Karajan Academy in Berlin with Gerd Seifert.
From 1982-88 he was a member of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
